Though it's Chennai, they call it as That Madras Place - Adyar - Restaurant

Outlet: Adyar
Address: 2nd Main Road, Kasturibai Nagar, Adyar, Chennai.
Cuisine: European, Italian, Desserts

Chennai is a city but Madras is an emotion; yes, that connects and touches the hearts of Madrasians. It is the name, That Madras Place (TMP), which creates the excitement to go and check out them. But you should be aware that there isn’t anything that denotes Madras in their food but it’s their ambience with witty depictions of prominent things about Madras that creates the magic.

Locating the place is simple if you find the 2nd Main Road and you shall have the entire road or the space before the restaurant to park your vehicles. With a walk way and lawn that leads you into the dining; it’s a small space that hardly holds 10 tables similar to a cafĂ©. The interior is simple and clutches the attention with their wall-art, stilted chairs, classy designs on the pillows and their cutlery adds the uniqueness to the dining experience.

That Madras Place - Restaurant Review - Adyar - Chennai
Soup
After spending a good time observing their wall-art, the hot Carrot Soup (which is the soup of the day) made its way. The sweetness of carrot, creamy and richness of the soup was fab just that I missed a slice of bread by the side.

They have good number of veg and non-veg dishes so anyone who walks in to dine wouldn’t be disappointed. All the appetizers they served were good taste-wise. The Bruschetta were awesome, no complaints. I loved the Classic Tomato and Basil toppings more than the Mushroom Duxelle Bruschetta.

Bruschetta
Everyone’s favorite, the Fries; who would say a NO to fries? Even the one who feels bored with the classic fries could order one with extra toppings. The Parsley Garlic Fries tossed in minced garlic, chilli flakes and parsley gives perfect kick at each bite. Though the former was good the latter, Chilli Beef Fries stole the show. The minced beef in the chilli sauce was a perfect match to the crispy fries.

The delectable looking sliders, Caprese wasn’t a favorite one for the evening. The mini burger with Basil Pesto sauce and a slice of Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato didn’t quite hit the mark with fresh or delicious flavors. The crispy potato wedges was the saving grace. The Virgin Mojito drink was decent.

At last it was time for a favorite course of mine, the Pasta. I loved all the three Vegetarian pasta dishes. The perfect one was the Mushroom Ravioli; Mushroom stuffing inside the soft bundle of ravioli which was soaked in the creamy butter sauce was out-of-the-world. Must try!

The lemony twists to the usual spaghetti were interesting and until you love tartness you wouldn’t enjoy the Lemon Spaghetti with Herby Breadcrumbs. The Penne in Pesto Sauce with Walnut was filled with strong pesto aroma, loved it.

Though the Chorizo lovers enjoyed it, I didn’t enjoy the Mushroom Ravioli in Chorizo and Bacon. The veg ravioli was a killer. The smoky taste of the sauce seems to overpower (as I am not a fan of Bacon/Chorizo flavors). The Penne in Tomato Sauce with Beef was cooked right and tasted good with right amount of sauce.

The mains again had no complaints. Best Eggplant Parmigiana I have tasted so far in Chennai; the succulent eggplant along with creamy sauce and the cheese’s gooeyness is perfection – What more can I ask for! One more please ;-)

Spicy Coriander Fish could have been better; though the fish taste was a delight I didn’t like the potatoes or vegetables as they weren’t crunchy.

The course I dare not to miss and always make sure to have a separate storage space, the desserts. A bite into the silky-chocolatey six-layer Theobroma and the delicious Flourless Chocolate Cake with Ice-cream is the perfect way to finish of a meal. The Tender Coconut and Filter Coffee Ice Cream is a pleasure for coconut and coffee lover. They also have the dessert jars (Red Velvet and Choco Mud) of The Table; I wasn’t a fan of both the jars. Finally, a cup of strong cappuccino before bidding goodbye to the foodilicious evening.

The staffs were courteous and great. Though there was scope for improvisation here and there the food helps to forgive those glitches.

Breaking Down Points
Location & Parking: Positive. Locating the place is easy. There is decent space to park outside the restaurant.
Ambience: Good. Simple, neat and loved the touch of Madras in their wall-art.
Food Variety: Positive. They haven’t bombarded with too many food items; perfectly planned list of dishes w.r.t their cuisine.
Taste: Good. Loved most of the dishes, taste-wise they score.
Quality: Good. Loved the cutlery and the presentation as well the quality of ingredients used.
Quantity: Ok. They seem to be deceptive as it was hard to judge the portion size from the plate. They aren’t ideal for sharing and would be perfect for one person.
Service: Good. No complaints.
Pricing: NA. Though I didn’t pay for the meal; the price is little on the ‘Costly’ side.

My Favorites: Carrot Soup, Chilli Beef Fries, Mushroom Ravioli, Eggplant Parmigiana, Theobroma.

Red Velvet Jar & Coffee
So my Verdict!
That Madras Place isn’t any madras place but a dining locality that presents some delicious food varieties which stands out for their taste, quality and presentation. No worries on the service. The food quantity wouldn’t be perfect for sharing. To hang out, relax, chat and eat some hearty food this would be an ideal place.

P.S. This write-up is based on my food palate & dining experience during my visit. On-the-house bloggers meet. Remember, no two person’s palate can be same.
